  • Daniel earned the status of U.S.C.F. National Master at age 14 (Rating 2200).
  • Daniel earned the status of International Master at the age of 23 (FIDE Rating 2400).
  • Daniel was ranked in the Top 10 for his age nationally every year from the age of 12yrs-21yrs old. He was the #1 rated 19-year old in the United States.
  • Daniel was the winner of numerous State and National Scholastic chess titles, including: 1998 Elementary National Champion; 2000 Junior High National Champion; 2004 High School National Champion. Multiple 1st place Individual State Championships from 1995-2004.
  • Daniel was a member of the Shelby School Chess Team’s multiple State and National Chess Championships. He was Captain of the 1998 team that won the K-3, K-6 and K-9 National Championships in the same year. (The 1998 Shelby School chess team is the only team in American scholastic chess history to accomplish this feat.)
  • Daniel was a 6-Time All American Chess Team Member.
  • As a Chess Coach/Trainer, Daniel has developed multiple State and National Champions. He is currently teaching several of Arizona’s best scholastic chess players, many of whom are rated in the top for their age in the nationally.

FIDE Master Pedram Atoufi

  • Pedram Atoufi is the owner of Unity Chess Club and a World Chess Federation FIDE Master.
  • He won the World Open of Philadelphia (under 2300 rating) in 2005.
  • Pedram was a member of the Marmaris Team, winners of the 2002 Turkey Chess League.
  • Pedram was the 1992 National Youth Champion of Iran.

National Master Leonardo Martinez

  • Leo Martinez has been playing chess in Tucson, Arizona since he was 9 years old.  Leo is the only “ACE Chess Instructor” currently residing/teaching in the southern areas (Tucson) of Arizona.

  • Leo won the K-8 National Junior High Chess Championship in 2000. This win helped propel him to the top of scholastic chess in the country.
  • Leo played in the 2002 Cadet Championships which is a tournament designed to match the top eight players under 16 years old in the United States.
  • Leo is a two time Arizona High School Chess Champion.
  • Leo is currently ranked amongst the top 15 players in the state of Arizona.

Leo now  teaches chess to both scholastic players and adults throughout the Tucson area. Leo is actively coaching in schools, private lessons and group sessions. He helped teach Castlehill Country Day School (with IM Levon Altounian) which later became the 2003 National Champions. He is also a board member of the non-profit organization 9-Queens which strives to extend the benefits of chess to women and underprivileged youth.

Leo is the Manager (and player) of the Arizona Scorpions, a U.S. Chess League team. He has helped bring the best players in the state together to compete nationally and to increase chess awareness in Arizona.

As a full time Realtor, Tiger was not always able to devote himself fully as a Chess Instructor, even though one of  the true loves in his life has always been to teach. However,  Tiger has recently shifted much of his focus back to teaching chess, and during this process, he has discovered just how much he has to offer players at the scholastic level.

Tiger’s experience and “know how” are matched by few coaches in the Arizona chess community. His goal is simply to pass on his lessons and knowledge in an efficient manner reminiscent to his own training. Tiger’s hard work and effective study habits made him one of the best players in the country for his age back in the early part of the decade, and he could not be more excited to pass on his experiences to a new generation of thriving chess players…
